Flipkart Shopsy App Launch and Aim

The Walmart owned e-commerce platform Flipkart launched the Shopsy app. The app aims to empower local entrepreneurs. The online shopping platform says this app will enable budding entrepreneurs to start their businesses without any investment. Flipkart aims to enable over 25 million entrepreneurs by 2023 to reap the benefits of e-commerce.

How it works

Shopsy app allows individuals to become resellers of the Flipkart products in their online network of popular social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp. To start, users will have to simply install the Shopsy App from Google Play Store. Then they can register on the app using their mobile number.

Shopsy users can share catalogues of Flipkart’s products with potential customers. They can place orders on behalf of potential customers and earn money through commissions. The commissions will vary depending upon the product categories.

“With the ability to influence their local network and fulfil their aspirations, users of Shopsy will be able to share catalogues of a wide selection of 15 crore products offered by Flipkart sellers, ranging across fashion, beauty, mobile phones, electronics and home, among others with potential customers via popular social media and messaging apps,” a statement by the company said.

The problem being solved

Many Indian consumers still prefer shopping online. It is because they don’t find e-commerce platforms trustworthy and simple.

Shopsy App enables these users to shop simply. They can check out the products shared by Shopsy app users they trust on social media platforms. Whenever they find a product worth their money, they can simply ask the Shopsy user to order it for them.

“Distributed commerce” has proven to be a successful way of solving the trust issues of customers worldwide. Flipkart launched the Shopsy app to enable users to shop with the help of people they trust.

Speaking on the app’s launch, Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President – Growth and Monetization, Flipkart said that the launch is a part of the company’s aim to contribute towards creating direct and indirect employment opportunities across the country. It also aims to bring in new online shoppers to the platform by providing an option of interactions with a trusted person. This essentially means that those people who do not transact online due to trust issues will be able to order from the e-commerce platform.

Flipkart is promoting the app as a way of helping the small scale entrepreneurs whose businesses were hit the most badly by the Covid-19 pandemic. Shopsy app can only be download from Google Play Store up to now. There is no update on the availability of its App Store version yet.
