Z Fold 3: Samsung aims to take folding phones mainstream
On Wednesday, Samsung announced two new foldable smartphones. This time with lower prices and improved durability in a bid to make the models mainstream. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G will test Samsung’s tactics to convince consumers to switch to foldable. Samsung has made their advantages more visible. It is a new style segment that the users in the market has not yet experienced maybe because they are not aware of the pros of foldables.
Regardless of the initial hype, the foldable smartphones costs more than £1,000, and remained a niche product. Samsung had lowered the cost and improved durability to attract more users towards the foldable smartphones. An analyst said that the new phones failed to offer “a truly compelling solution to the mass market”.
An author at CCS Insight- Ben Wood said that it was notable some features from Samsung’s high-end Galaxy Note series- such as the Note’s trademark stylus were coming to the Fold 3. “This suggests Samsung believes the time is right to move foldables beyond a niche of early adopters”, he added. He also mentioned, “But it’s notable that rivals like Apple have not felt the need to follow, raising the question of whether the level of consumer demand justifies the investment.”
